SELF-HELPERY

I have a secret. My guilty pleasure is reading self-help books (shh...don't tell!). And why not? I always learn something, and I always feel better... until the words and lessons begin to fade and I move on to the next one. But there is one mind-blowing lesson that is a constant. Are you ready?

It's all in your head.

True story. Find the thought that feels good and stick with it. Live in the Now. Turn that frown upside-down by turning that thought around. If something is bothering you simply change your attitude toward that something. Don't argue with reality; what is, is. Your job is to be happy. You can do it. You are amazing! You are a badass!

Self-help gurus are, well...gurus. They make big bucks for a reason. Have you ever heard of Tony Robbins? His net worth is $500 million. People looking for the secret of life pay buttloads of cash to cruise with Esther Hicks or "go to school" with Byron Katie. Heck, I would too if I won the lottery tomorrow.

Why? Because it feels good, and it's legal. What a heady combination!

The good news is you don't have to get a third job or take out a second mortgage to feel good about yourself. Buy, borrow, barter the books. There are so many! And YouTube videos are FREE! Pinterest and Facebook pages like FloridaMermaidMusings are chockfull of inspirational quotes. Amazing. And so much cheaper than a therapist.

Some of these books want you to actually do something other than reading the page.
Morning pages (um...I don't have any paper).
Judge Thy Neighbor worksheet (I don't even know my neighbors).
Nature walk noticing tiny beautiful things... (I don't have any legs).

Here's another secret. I don't do them. Way too lazy. But if it makes you feel better, by all means, pick up the pen or pull on those dusty sneakers. Never lose your objective: Your happiness.

Here are just three books I highly recommend. They will empower you to feel better, I promise!

Pulling Your Own Strings by Wayne Dyer (Don't take crap from anybody!)
You are a Badass by Jen Sincero (Create a life you totally love and create it NOW!)
Loving What Is by Byron Katie (Read this book, seriously. It changed my life!)

Thank you for reading my blog! I appreciate you, dear reader. Stay tuned for my next blog post, Favorite Places: Cassadaga.

Just keep swimming!
